HEATHER + JOSH
After ten years together and two amazing kids, Heather and Josh were definitely not interested in having all the fuss and noise of a traditional wedding. For them, it was more important to celebrate their love in an authentic and intimate way while surrounded by just their closest friends and family. By choosing a destination wedding, they were able to keep their list and avoid any hurt feelings, knowing that the guest list would be naturally reduced. In the end, they were able to renew their vows in a meaningful and intimate mala ceremony (in Hinduism and Sikhism; a string of prayer beads) at the pretty Huracan Cafe in the incredible Bavaro Beach, recognized as one of the 10 best beaches in the world, surrounded by 50 of their dearest by their side sharing all the love, happiness, and uniqueness of their special day.

Josh & Heather thank you so much for choosing our NCH Studio team as the Punta Cana Photographers for your beautiful Huracan Cafe Wedding.
Why did you choose an intimate wedding?
Josh and I have been married for 10 years. We have a special relationship and are fortunate to be surrounded by a beautiful group of friends and family. We knew that we wanted to focus on celebrating our love, rather than focusing on all the buzz that comes along with today’s weddings. Our wedding was a sincere celebration of our love for each other, witnessed by our dearest family and friends. It was just unforgettable.
How did you address the small guest list with the rest of your friends and family?
Not really. Initially, we invited about 90 people, but because it was a destination wedding, we knew that some people would not be able to commit, so we weren’t really worried about the size of our guest list. We knew the list would naturally shrink and it did! And we ended with the perfect number of guests.
What were some of the highlights of the ceremony?
I can’t pick! Our playlist was definitely a highlight – every song meant something to us, and also carried the soundtrack of so many memories we have with friends and family members. Another important highlight was our unique Love Mala ceremony. We asked each of our guests to hold a bead from our welcome table during the whole ceremony and to impregnate it with their intentions and good wishes for us. My maid of honor read something aloud to explain to our guests the definition of a mala and the purpose of such a ceremony. The beads were then used to make a Love Mala, holding all the love, friendship, and intentions from the friends and family that attended our ceremony. It was beautiful.
What were the highlights of the reception?
The décor, the breeze, the mood, the venue, every little detail was unforgettable! Sitting and enjoying dinner all together, listening to speeches, and kind words and the ambiance with 50 of our closest friends and family, honestly we couldn’t have wished for more. We spent time with everyone, enjoyed our meals, danced the night away, and even had dessert at the end of the night!
Did you face too many challenges, planning a destination wedding?
Honestly, I cannot say there were any challenges! The seating chart was maybe the hardest part. The number of tables available and options for table sizes was limited, so we had to place people together who didn’t know each other which I thought would feel awkward, but turned out to be awesome in the end.
Can you say what the best thing about having an intimate destination wedding was?
Experiencing a complete wedding week with every guest, feeling the love and joy in the air, and being surrounded by those we love. It was truly a reflection of our partnership and marriage.
Do you have any advice for couples who are considering an intimate Destination wedding?
DO IT! It’s the only time in your life when you get to be selfish and do only what you want for yourselves! It’s so hard to explain what a wonderful sensation it is to be surrounded by everyone you love and who love you and really feel it.
